Zero Waste Town Update

I’ve spent the last few days doing a rapid induction and handover of the Zero Waste Town project. It was not that long ago in August that I gave a short presentation to an invited audience and attended by the Environment Minister Richard Lochhead, who had swung by to make public that our pitch to become the first Zero Waste Town was successful.

Dunbar was selected for the pilot project following submissions from across Scotland after an open call for interested communities in 2013.

Needless to say the weather was grim, but it was good to see such a wide range of local stakeholders all the same. Naturally there is a long way to go yet, and it will need more than luck to achieve the objectives. However, with wide public support, major service changes in the pipeline and a plethora of measures tailored for the locality, there’s a chance the project will be a success, though this depends on how success is measured, which is another story. We pleased to have led the project to this stage. But it is time to move on.
